Overhauling Our Backyard -- Step 1: Going Green!
This summer we are undertaking a large overhaul of our backyard to make it more usable and more inviting... this is our first step towards that goal. We installed an underground composter for our kitchen scraps so we would add less old food to the city dump and every few years when we need to empty it it will give us very rich compost that we can use on our flowers and grass. We also created a special area for Tazzy to do her business so she isn't going all over the yard... we've made it pleasant to look at, easy to clean up after her, and installed another type of underground composter that works something like a septic tank... we just scoop and dump her stuff in the hole and let nature do it's job. The dog composter is still an experiment for us but it's reported to be working very well up in Canada as well as in Alaska where it gets much colder than here so I suspect it will work well for us.
Check out the pix here!

Now, is this a Utah backyard or a California one? The flatness bears a striking resemblence to Arizona or Nevada.

Actually this is a Utah yard. Many Utah yards are flat like this especially the ones that aren't on the benches of mountains. It should also be noted that our yard is pretty small and pre-fabricated in a condominium environment... larger yards are more likely to be less flat than ours.

Well Brandon, I am awestruck at your amazing landscaping abilities. I have a Web site now!

Heather's an ISSA Certified Personal Fitness Trainer!
Everyone send an email to Heather and congratulate her... she just completed her Personal Fitness Trainer certification with ISSA! It's been a tough, nearly two year, process of study for her but she's finally done it!!! It was really awesome to see her finish it... I think she almost cried! :)
Anyways, here is the photo of her "clicking" on the 'submit' button to submit her exam (which took her I think about 2-3 weeks to finish!) -- about 4 days later she got the results that she had passed. About a week after that we received her Certificate and certification package in the mail... I took her to dinner at Rodizio's Grill and presented her her Certificate in a nice frame she can display it in.
It was a great experience for her! So, if you need some training or eating information... she's your woman! :)

Our new townhome!
Yes, we've been moved in for a while now... about 6 months in fact! But we've been busy and finally just got around to updating our blog with photos for all of our friends and family that might be interested. There are too many photos to post here, so I created a gallery where you can view them with comments as a slide-show, if you want. Check out our new home by clicking on the photo above. We love our new home!
NOTE: To access the photo-gallery, you are going to need a password. If you don't have it, email one of us and we'll give it to you.

2006 American Diabetes Walk-a-Thon
Well, the walk was yesterday and Heather and I had a *GREAT* time! The weather was perfect for walking and the crowd was a whole lot larger than we expected! The organization was lacking this year, unfortunately (we heard in years past it's been much better) and we never really had a good idea where we were heading (neither did most anyone else!) -- eventually we all met at the back entrance to the zoo and then things really fell apart... there were *NO* signs telling us what the route was throughout the zoo so we just walked around a bunch until we'd had our fill... up to the zoo I figure we walked about 2.5-3 miles. We might have walked another 2-2.5 miles while we were at the zoo, maybe. Either way it was a great time. There were a whole lot of diabetics there and we got some great information about new laws concerning diabetics as well as a look at some new diabetic products coming out on the market.
To those who donated as well as to those who were unable to but wished that they could have: Thank You for your support! Our main goal in doing this was to help bring diabetes to the front of people's thoughts as well as have a good cause to get out and move our feet for... mission accomplished!
We would like to do this again next year, so if anyone is interested in joining us next year, just holler!

So this is what we'll do... I don't want to leave my email addy here forever... so, if you come back and read this, respond to it and I'll post my email address here that same day... then once you get it, email me back so I can go back and delete my address... ok???
