Election Day: T - 6Days and Counting
"... I live at lower 5th Avenue, and I would say it's about a mile and a half from point zero. And you could smell death in the air for months... and then everybody else knows somebody who was killed... [and] it was all brought home to me when there were services a year later and I was asked to read some of the names of the dead. And I was sitting next to the father of one of the young women who was killd. He was from Wisconsin. He saw it all happening. He was called on the phone by neighbors, and his daughter was in that building at that particular moment, and as he related it to me, I began to weep. It was just aweful... I believe [the Bush administration is] doing a good job, but there's a lot more that has to be done. There's no question that the examination of the container ships is not yet adequate. But they're getting there. I've never voted for a Republican president. I think of myself as a good Democrat. And I tried to bring the party closer to the center, because I'm a centrist myself. I describe myself as a liberal with sanity. And I think it's a description that most Democrats would apply to themselves. But regrettably, the party is oftentimes taken over by the radicals on the left, the McGovern people, the Dean people. And you have to stand up and fight 'em. And I have decided that's exactly what I'm going to do. Because we're at war! And these people want to kill us... and, well, I'd rather kill them, and I'd rather it be done in other countries before they come here... I think [Bush] is a good president. He has enunciated a rule of law which I think rivals the Monroe Doctrine and the Truman Doctrine. The Bush Doctrine is, "We will go after terrorists, and the countries that harbor them." You think John Kerry's going to do that? I don't think so. I know his supporters don't want that."
