My opinion gets published in the Navy Times!

A few weeks ago a letter to the editor appeared in the Navy Times. The letter was from an Army Reservist, and was pretty critical and condescending to Active Duty military service members. It was pretty unfounded and very unfair. I felt it deserved a response, so I wrote one. Apparently, I wasn't the only one... so far the Navy Times has published 5 other responses to the Army Lt. Colonel's letter, and all of them have been very critical of his views. My letter has just been published in the most recent edition, though severely chopped for space... I understand an editor's need to chop a piece for space, and my article still read nicely so I'm not upset. Though, I wanted my full article published and even though the readership here is nearly null, I'm putting it here anyways, JUST BECAUSE I CAN! :)

Still, the Navy Times is among the largest distributed newspapers throughout the military... the fact that they published my opinion is pretty cool and it was satisfying to see my name in print! :)

Here is the original letter from the Army Reservist: "Non-Tangibles Add Up", Navy Times, 18OCT2004.

Here is my response, as published in it's edited form: "Chopped Letter to the Editor", Navy Times, 8NOV2004.

Here is my full response: "Letter to Editor", published for the first-time ever HERE! :)

congrats on being published! i took a course on opinion writing in college and it was TOUGH! we had an assignment where we had to write an effective letter to the editor and it was one of the hardest assignments. you made your point very well; hopefully the lt. colonel will see it.

Thanks Candace! Maybe the Lt. Col. will see my point... unfortunately the cold-hard numbers that I wanted to present to him were not published... but oh well... I'm always too wordy! :)
