Discharged from the Navy

Wow, what a relief! Today was the official day... it's been exactly 6 years that I've been in the Navy, and just 2 days shy of 4 years at sea... but it's final... today I handed in mine and Heather's ID's and they handed me my DD-214 (that's "walking papers" to us civilian-types!)
:)

True to the Navy way of things, everything has been a mess for the last 2 months... no one was able to give me a straight answer... the whole time I basically had 5 dates in front of me: 23rd of November, 3rd of August, 23rd of July, 23rd of May, or "a date we have yet to determine, probably sometime in June"... UGGH!!!! Well, last week my orders came in and they gave me just *4* days notice!!! But, happily, I ran around those last 4 days doing all of the things that you are supposed to take a month or longer doing, in order to be able to separate on time...

In one great big wave of frustration and joy I unceremoniously threw away my boondockers (again, to us civilian types, that's jargon for "military boots") and put Heather on notice that I will not be shaving every day anymore... in fact, it might be a good long time before I decide to shave at all!

:)

Course that probably won't last long once the itching sets in...

Hey there! Let me start off by saying I have never blogged before. I was on the net googling Heather Gresham ( that is my name too). Your website came up. This is a very weird request, but my husband Brian Gresham ( who is in the Coast Guard) is on a mission to find his birth Father. I know this is a long shot but thought maybe your husband Brandon ( being a Gresham) might be a path of interest. Once again a long shot. If it is I'm sorry for wasting your time. You can always contact me at Hbyrnsy@aol.com. A little info...We live in Mass. He has not seen his Father since he was 2. He is now 33. The interest you might ask? We have two small children now and would like a little family history. Once again I know this is "out of the blue". By the way, Thank your Husband for his sercive to our great country!. All my best ( though wierd), Heather Gresham

Hey Brandon,

Congratulations on getting out of the Navy! You were always one of the most motivated and best workers in our division. I am sure your talents, personality and great attitude will go a long way in the civilian world too. I wish you the best of luck and consider myself lucky to have had the privilege and honor of working with you.

Gary
